Wellington

Wellington’s southern suburbs are a diverse landscape of primarily residential neighbourhoods nestled amongst plenty of green space. The area grew progressively from the mid 19th century in response to Wellington’s growth and demand for more housing. The suburbs form a belt extending south of the city, from Mount Victoria and Mount Cook closer in and stretching out to Brooklyn, Newtown, Berhampore, and Island Bay.

Mount Victoria, southeast of the CBD, is one of the city’s oldest suburbs. It takes its name from the hill on which the suburb is perched, and has retained its mostly 19th century architecture of wooden villas and cottages. The top of Mount Victoria offers panoramic views of Wellington and its harbour. Oriental Bay, nestled at the bottom of Mount Victoria, is a popular spot for its sandy beaches and broad promenade.

Mount Cook, on the CBD’s southern fringe, is home to Massey University’s Wellington campus. 6,582 people live there, a younger population than the Wellington average, many drawn by its proximity to both the university and the central city. Its neighbours are cosmopolitan Newtown, where Wellington’s largest hospital is located, and Brooklyn, a suburb named for the borough of New York City.

Brooklyn has a Central Park, named also for the New York City icon, and a number of streets named after former Republican US Presidents including Grover Cleveland, Thomas Jefferson and Abraham Lincoln. Popular New Zealand band Shihad are notable former residents of the suburb. Brooklyn residents are generally well off, with 32% identifying as having professional occupations. At the top of Brooklyn Hill are the Wellington Wind Turbines; walking up to this landmarks offers spectacular views of the Wellington region, Cook Strait and beyond.

Berhampore is a residential suburb south of Newtown, once considered to be one of the top three locations for property investment in New Zealand. A small residential area is tucked away off the busy Adelaide Road thoroughfare, and the suburb is surrounded by an extensive green belt and golf course.

Further south along Adelaide Road, Wellington’s southernmost suburbs are Island Bay and the neighbouring Southgate and Houghton Bay. Island Bay and Houghton Bay each lay on the bay that shares its name; Southgate is a slim suburb largely surrounded by reserve and parkland, just inland from Houghton Bay. Island Bay is sparsely populated; its residents are largely families with comfortable incomes. Fishing and surfing are popular on Wellington’s south coast.

The City to Sea walkway begins in the heart of central Wellington near Parliament, and winds its way over 12km of varied terrain to end at the south coast in Island Bay. The route takes in many of the unique sights and historic landmarks of southern Wellington, including 14 parks and reserves.

Great feedback for Raumati Sands Resort

"To whom it may concern, I constantly recommend Raumati Sands to all my friends and family. I have had reason to visit Wellington from Hawke's Bay at regular interval over the last 18 months and was advised to 'perhaps try Raumati Sands' - the result being I now stay there every time with different members of my immediate family! I can't speak highly enough of the hospitable and helpful manner in which we are treated and the well appointed units are always immaculately clean. With it being an easy 40 minute drive to the heart of the city we prefer being in a stress free and beautiful environment which for us, is easily accessed from the north." - Brenda H.

Another excellent review for Fragrifert Parfumeur

’I was looking for floral fragrances online when I found Fragrifert, a boutique perfumery. With 10 single flower perfumes in their range I wasn’t sure which one to choose but luckily they have a perfume sampler pack containing all 10 so I purchased one. When it arrived I wanted to try all the perfume samples at once but decided to limit myself to one a day. Ten days later and I'm in love - all the flower fragrances are divine, and I’ve received so many compliments from friends and work colleagues. Even my local coffee cart guy leaned over and sniffed saying, ‘Is that magnolia? You smell gorgeous.’ From classic Lilac and Lily of the Valley perfumes to spicy Carnation or distinctive Magnolia, there would definitely be a flower fragrance that suits everyone. I've also tried different combinations of flower perfumes - creating a bouquet of flowers! My personal favourites are Ajonc (Gorse) and Gardenia and I’ve already put in an order for Ajonc in a larger size - who would have known that the prickly gorse bush could smell so intoxicating!’ - Vicki

"Steve has designed our private label stand s for the Foodstuffs annual Expo for a number of years now. Each year Steve has developed a unique and innovative display that has both captured the essence of our brand and communicated the key message from our initial brief in an outstanding way. I always wonder how he can better the exhibit each year but he always does. He has an uncanny nack of pulling together all the elements of our brand and products and brings a theatrical 3 dimensional attraction to what our brand represents and beyond. Our customers love our exhibits and are always fully engaged with what they see, so for us it doesn't really get much better." - Jocelyn

Good things being said about Shout Group

I have worked with Shout Group for over five years as the National Marketing Manager for Dulux. They were my preferred supplier for all our in store display and merchandising materials. Shout Group is a company who make things happen; from generating concepts and ideas, supervising production to coordinating installation. Their most notable achievement for Dulux was the design, production and installation of the new Dulux Colours of New Zealand colour collateral stands. This was a very large project and was a vital component in the success of Dulux’s biggest marketing program in over a decade. Shout Group worked with me in producing an innovative and market leading design, they then produced and coordinated installation of these units in over 300 paint and hardware stores across New Zealand. They did this within our budget and to the very tight timelines we were under. I have no hesitation in recommending Shout Group to other organisations that are looking for an innovative, dynamic merchandising and display company with a can do attitude. - Michael
